Swiss traveler Jess Melu set off to Zambia to admire the breathtaking beauty of Victoria Falls. During her trip, she decided to record a short video while sitting near the edge of a cliff. What was meant to be a peaceful travel memory soon turned into something far more unsettling.
In the footage she later shared, Jess is seen sitting in a red swimsuit against the dramatic backdrop of the roaring waterfall. But just behind her, something unexpected begins to emerge.
A small snake slowly slithers out from the rocks, moving steadily in her direction.
Neither Jess nor the person filming seemed to notice the reptile at the time. The video cuts off at the exact moment the snake appears dangerously close to her.
It wasn’t until later, while reviewing the footage, that Jess realized how close she had been to a potentially frightening encounter.
“It was one of those moments when you’re enjoying nature… until it reminds you who’s really in charge,” she wrote in her post.
She admitted she had no idea the snake was there until after the video had already been recorded.
Social media users quickly flooded the comments. Some said they would have panicked and possibly lost their balance near the cliff. Others joked that even the snake couldn’t resist getting a closer look.
Fortunately, Jess was unharmed.
But her video quickly went viral, serving as a reminder to travelers everywhere: before capturing the perfect shot, always make sure your surroundings are safe.
